Friendship

There is a burden upon my heart in the area of friendships and those whom we share life with. Unfortunately, I have seen many times how jealousy, bitterness, anger, deceit and just plain factiousness have wrecked havoc in relationships with people I have known. It grieves me, because rather than giving praise to the Lord and holding each other accountable; there is war being waged against sisters and even brothers in Christ. (the brothers tend to be on the outskirts of this most of the time – one has to love the way guys often times avert this! I wish more women did the same!!!) Why is there so much time being wasted on frivolous things?  How will picking a fight, saying and unkind word, being jealous or holding a grudge help to further the kingdom of God? Those who call themselves Christians should be holding themselves in a higher standard!! Below are some verses that I believe shed light on the way we should conduct ourselves in the manner of friendship. ( I know I needed a refresher course on these principles) There is always room for improvement - by challenging one another towards kindness and goodness we in turn will have more meaningful relationships.

Galatians 5:22-26 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace. Patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”

Job 6:14 “He who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty”

Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”

Philippians 1:6-7 “And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about you all because I hold you in my heart, for you are partakers with me of grace…”

Philippians 2:3-8 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: who, being in very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being found in appearance as a man, humbled himself by becoming obedient to death- even death on a cross!”

John 15:3 “Greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

I think God is very clear on the way we should treat others! Please think twice before being jealous, saying an unkind word or anything of the like. Remember it is not honoring or pleasing to God and we grieve Him greatly when we treat people in this manner! Rather, we should be uplifting one another and bearing one another’s burdens in true community.

Perseverance

Perseverance - Perseverance-Perseverance

This morning I had read a friend’s facebook status that had this very word in it. Right there in an instant it hit me… this was the very thing I needed to remember. When all of life seems like its going wrong and positives are hard to see anymore this is the very moment to persevere!  It almost made me laugh out loud when I looked the word up – I knew what the word literally meant but I was just curious if this in fact was the key thing I had been missing lately. What I found was the very definition of the word is : “continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty  or with little or no indication of success. This was not exactly the definition I was thinking entirely – it was merely to endure the problem with enough dedication that there will be an end. However, "with little indication of success" was not exactly crossing my mind! This point goes much deeper than I realized. Perhaps, it should more appropriately, state "when there is little hope of success".

Hebrews 12:1-4 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.”

At this point, God revealed to me something in this verse that never truly hit me as hard as it is now. I have never had to shed blood for any problem I have had to endure. I think sometimes we as humans tend to look at ourselves with a sense of entitlement when we have endured problems – as if the world owes you or I something. This type of thinking can lead into a trap of self deception. The truth is Jesus has showed us the example to live by. We need not let the flesh interfere with the greater purpose for which we have been called.  There is a constant reminder we must keep at the forefront to have a fighting chance – that is adversity gives us the chance to grow.

Job 5:6-17: “For hardship does not spring from the soil, nor does trouble sprout from the ground. Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward. But if it were I, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. He bestows rain on the earth; he sends water upon the countryside. The lowly he sets on high and those who mourn are lifted to safety. He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success. He catches the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are swept away. Darkness comes upon them in the daytime; at noon they grope as in the night. He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.  Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty!”

In Job’s case, he did not understand why he was suffering which gives us a practical example of perseverance in action! Through his suffering Job’s faith had a chance to grow, but on the other hand, we must realize that God does not eliminate all hardship when we are following him closely, and good behavior is not always rewarded by prosperity. Reward for good and bad are in God’s hands and are given out in His infinite wisdom.

Like Job, Jesus suffered greatly for no fault of his own. However, God used Jesus’ suffering to bring about the greater good for generations to come. This again reminds us that we can’t see the bigger picture. It is our job to persevere through trails and difficulties – after all pain can helps us grow. The enemy’s ploy is to get us to doubt God’s goodwill towards us!

I made the point above about a deeper point being made- "with little indication of success" – when everything is crumbling around you: what will you do in that moment? Take on the example of Job and Jesus and fight the good fight or give in to self deception? Even I myself am feeling a sense of heaviness with this – it’s not an easy task!!! It takes all of the fundamentals of surrender and trust to a much deeper level.

Fairest Lord Jesus

Today, I was thinking, while listening to one of my favorite hymns – Fairest Lord Jesus – where did this great song come from and what was the inspiration behind it. This was one of the first hymns I learned in church youth choir when I was 10 years old. I remember how the words moved me as I would try to imagine what it would be like to meet Jesus face to face! The ending of the song is, in my opinion, most powerful where praise and adoration is given. I think the best arrangement is by Point of Grace!  After all of these years have passed, I still have not forgotten how this song sprung up hope in my heart. Every time I hear it - I am transported back to that moment where I felt the joy and discovery of who Jesus is. These words depict Him as being the pinnacle of God’s creation – something worthy of celebration, honor and glory. It gave me comfort in a very difficult time in my young life to know He was bigger than all my problems! He is Lord over all things! Such a great reminder some 21 years later that no matter what - He is STILL bigger than any problem you or I face!!

Unfortunately, I discovered there is little known about this great hymn- the writer and the exact origins are pretty much unknown. It is believed to have been written as early as 1607 by German Jesuit monks who use to chant the below set of words. Apparently, they were not allowed to sing. (Interesting tidbit – I might add) The lyrics were put to music in 1850 by Richard S. Willis. In addition, to not knowing who authored this hymn - the person who translated this work from German to English is also unknown!  It’s a mystery but what a beautiful one at that!

Fairest Lord Jesus
Ruler of all nature
O Thou of God and man the Son
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor
Thou my soul's glory, joy and crown

Fair are the meadows
Fairer still the woodlands
Robed in the blooming garb of spring
Jesus, Jesus is fairer
Jesus is purer
Who makes the woeful heart to sing

Fair is the sunshine
Fairer still the moonlight
And all the twinkling starry host
Jesus shines brighter
Oh my Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heaven can boast

Beautiful Savior
Lord of the nations
Son of God and Son of Man
Glory and honor, praise adoration
Now and forever more be Thine
Glory and honor, praise adoration
Now and forever more be Thine

Let God Lead

These last few months I have experienced a writer’s block. I am fairly certain as to what I can attribute this to. There have been some pretty heavy events for which I have had to endure as of late. It has been during this time that I have stepped back to reflect. I find it difficult to stay still in the face of trials. Maybe some of you who stumble upon this page feel the same way. I have found that being a problem solver has its strengths but it also can be a form of weakness. There is always a sense that something needs to be done, handled or figured out. However, it is interesting when I took a step backward to realize that by my constant need for something to happen – I may very well be inhibiting God from teaching me a very important lesson. It’s not for me to fix, handle or figure out. It’s the precise moment to be still and wait not moving a single step forward until God leads it. I never realized until recently how many times I jump the gun before God has a chance to show me. The thought occurred to me – am I missing the point all together? It’s not an easy lesson to learn. To get yourself out of God’s way and let Him lead you into deeper meaning and purpose. This lesson has many life applications – I am grateful for grasping and understanding them now!

Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and LEAD me in the way everlasting!”

This has been an eye opening experience to ask God to reveal the grievous ways that I possess. Be careful what you ask God to reveal to you about yourself – He is the catalyst for serious change to occur in your life. If you allow God to do this work in you, He will purge the bad habits that inhibit you from achieving the most out of life. It requires you to get out of your own way first -- let God lead and you follow.

In my own spiritual journey as of late, I have experienced a strong personal battle. After I implemented the lesson of leadership I quickly find myself at odds with this very truth – a testing period, if you will. It is in these difficult moments where learning can be put into actual practice.

Psalm 143:10-11
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! For your name’s sake, O Lord preserve my life! In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble!”

Lessons

Sometimes things don’t go the way we plan
The tides seemingly change before we think we are ready
Pretty quickly the scenery changes
All we once held on to seems less important
It is that vital moment where you realize the truth of the matter
Wonder fills the empty spaces
There is only one choice to make – embrace
Despite the feeling that comes with leaving things behind
There’s always a growing hope in those who believe
Belief that isn’t based on fleeting feelings
Rather, a solid hope that there is something greater to live for….
It’s beyond ourselves and the selfish world we build around ourselves
It transcends us but is not beyond reason
It is the well spring of life
The very meaning of existence
Discovering Him who created the universe
Sheds light on the straight and narrow path
This paved way is difficult to follow
It requires sacrifice of all things to gain something so much greater in return

What if

What if today never happened?
Would we be sad about its loss?
Or even mourn for what could have been…

What if a dream never came true?
Would we pursue another one?
Or simply would we settle for the here and now?

What if I never met you?
Would I be wishing for someone like you?
Or would it be the opposite from some adverse affect?

What if a heart was never broken?
Would anyone know the true form of joy?
Or be able to fully appreciate the good things when they happen?

What if tomorrow never came?
Would we live differently today?
Or would we take it for granted as if common place?

What if truth never existed?
Wouldn’t structure and meaning for life be thrown out the window?
Or would there be an endless pursuit of it?

What if there was no love?
Would lust and selfish desires have free reign?
Or would we finally realize our need for a redeemer?

Surrender

What does it mean to have total surrender? I believe that surrender is an opening of your life so fully and completely to God that you hold nothing back for yourself. It’s honesty at the highest level not only with yourself but with God as well.  It’s this type of willing and open spirit that actually lets Jesus get into every part of your heart that may have been broken, damaged and trampled on. These hidden parts are the ones we protect from everyone and everything which can ultimately hold us back from the possibility of true healing taking place. To put it bluntly it’s a form of bondage and not freedom. The thought just occurred to me, that some reading this may be wondering how surrender can be a form of freedom.

The thought of someone having control on your life is never a pleasant thought anyone has. We seem as a people to struggle against authority. I often wonder if this concept is in direct correlation with the way we interacted with our parents as children.  As I have people watched, it a curious thing to consider how some of these people’s parents raised them. If you think about it, the way we look, talk and respect authority has been shaped by our parents. After all, they were the first implementers of discipline we experienced. This seems to go a bit deeper when contemplating the idea of God – with total authority, wisdom and power. I think many of us look like defiant children stamping our foot on the ground when God doesn’t give us what we want and when we want it. Question: have you ever been shopping and observed a bratty kid throwing themselves on the ground because they don’t get what they want? I know I have!! To be honest, it’s not pleasant site to behold! What about God – isn’t it possible that we don’t always get what we want because it could potentially be in our best interest? We can’t see into the future to fully know what is truly best for ourselves! However, when thinking about the creator of the universe forming each of us - he knows what He’s doing. Wouldn’t it behoove each of us to place our trust fully in Him; whereby experiencing true freedom? It really is no far stretch for me to consider why there are atheists in the world. They elevate themselves as a sort of god, as a byproduct making each of us the master and declarer of our own destiny. As far as I know, no one knows the future or what will happen in the next minute, hour or day. Can you really be the master and commander of your own future if you don’t know what tomorrow will bring? What happens when we find ourselves shipwrecked in this condition? Are they trying to tell me that I being the one that got myself into this mess am all of a sudden going to get myself out? Is that why there is such a high rate of depression and suicide in the world – because they got themselves out of the hole???!!! (there are so many other things beyond suicide and depression – take your pick)

Trust is a major key here; you have to be vulnerable to your creator to be honest about everything you truly struggle with. This takes religion out of the equation because it goes so much deeper than the surface - it goes straight for the heart. I think this part is a huge hindrance for many, as we like to think we have control over everything. The ideology of religion for many is nothing more than a crutch rather than a solution to the problem. Religion never goes beyond the surface and therefore never gets to the true root of the problem. This is the where and how a relationship with God can be formed directly.

Last night, while I was listening to a pastor describe how God feels about us; he explained we are God’s masterpiece – created with intention and for a purpose. Due to our own sinful nature we often pervert and damage the work of art God created and longs for us to be. Think about it – do you think God intended for anyone to be a murderers, rapists, thieves, child abusers…??? Absolutely NOT! Sin can seem good for a season but what happens when the season is over? Once partaken in, the sin seems to consume the person only making them sicker and more decrepit. God is outstretching His hand but they keep telling Him no but continue to say in their hearts that they have the better plan. Really??!! I had an illustration a few months ago while I was outside during my lunch break. There was a woodpecker that kept flying into the window of a building. In his struggle to get inside the way he thought possible, he pecked at the glass in various spots at different angles but to no avail – he could not get in. At what point does that woodpecker actually give up and realize that perhaps this wasn’t the path he was intended for? What about us? Many of us do the same exact thing – at what point do we acknowledge that we need to let go - to surrender?

The most important aspect is allowing God to get into the deep depth of our hearts and chisel and chip away all of the things that hold us back from having a free relationship with Him; in order to restore/ rescue and redeem the masterpiece we were intended to be. In allowing God to help you deal and heal you actually work through all of the issues that may be holding you back. With His help you are no longer held captive and in chains. Rather, you would experience freedom that comes from giving God all of your burdens/ problems / issues and letting him heal you.

For example: I have seen friends of mine over the years go into relationship after relationship never giving themselves time to first reflect on what happened, get over it and let God heal the heart. (in most cases the break-ups were not pretty) Instead, they masked the pain thinking that the next relationship would satisfy that hole in their heart. Unfortunately, what actually happened was they brought all of the problems from their past relationships into the new relationship and so perpetuates the viscous cycle. This example happens more times than I care to talk about; but relationships are not the only arena these types of behaviors manifest themselves. The same can be said for many types of things in our own life! What things are you putting in the place of God? In this example, relationships cannot fill that God shaped void or make you happy. You first have to be happy with you first and foremost and build a strong and solid relationship with the Lord. By living in this manner, Jesus provides the freedom with a clean slate to embark on a new journey that God places before us.

Cast ALL your problems, fears and failures at the feet of Jesus!!!!

Psalms 55:22 “ Cast all your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”

I have learned that the things I have put blood, sweat and tears into end up being the most amazing depictions of Christ’s love, power and victory in my own life. Think about it – Jesus did not choose the easy way to save our souls! Not by any means! He gave everything He had because he deemed us worthy of dying for.

I heard a question not long ago, from a pastor in Idaho – (his name escapes me at the moment) – he asked “When you get to heaven do you want God to show you what you could have been if you had lived a life surrendered fully to Him?” I am a visual person I instantly constructed the scene – there you are before God Almighty He calls you forward and then a big screen comes down. There it is in plain color for all to see every decision you made and every chance you threw away. Then he says this is who you are but this is what I intended you to be! At that moment, you realize the miracle you missed out on! Ok I know a bit dramatic but it hit me this hard and I have not been able to get this question out of my mind ever since. I keep asking myself what are the important things to me here on earth – right at this moment will they stand the test of eternity?

Philippians 4:8 – Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely – if anything is excellent  or praiseworthy thing about these things.

It’s a very daunting task to get yourself out of the way! I have heard it said that “I am always on my mind!!” This statement is so true! Sometimes, it is possible that we get in our own way of achieving greatness.

To revisit the question I opened this post with:  what does a person in total surrender look like? I think it can be summed up as someone who has such a hunger and a thirst for God that their actions reflect this fact as much as possible. Although knowingly never perfect, there is a genuine desire to try and reflect Christ’s example by loving people. In addition, striving daily to be all that God has designed you to be – to live it out full heartedly. That way when you are face to face with Jesus there won’t be much left undone! He can say to you – job well done! Don’t be deceived into thinking that living totally for yourself is going to satisfy you – you were made for so much more!! Don't be afraid to surrender your life to your creator - it will change your life in a way you never imagined it would!

As I just finished and re-read this paragraph Jesus said the same exact thing as he commanded us  in Matthew 22: 37-39 “Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and  with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “love your neighbor as yourself.”

The battle of the mind...

I have been developing the below idea and it is a little in its rough stages, but here goes.....

One of the fundamental problems of living in defeat stems from the fact that we inherently forget how much God loves us!! We forget that He so desperately wants to show us His plan for our lives, to have fellowship with us –He makes all things work together for our good ALL of the time! When the trials come our way His love and purpose for our lives is the first thing that comes under attack. The moment we take our focus and attention away from the voice of God - we begin to lose sight and get deceived into thinking we can solve our own problems / trials. Before long, we wonder how we have strayed so far. I have been learning in my own personal journey that it all stems from our personal thought process. If we aren’t monitoring the thoughts that come into our minds and paying close attention the enemy loves to take a simple negative thought and multiply it exponentially.  The battle is for and over the mind. It has to be a conscious choice everyday to either listen to the negative / self defeating or self glorifying thoughts. (There are many other thought types I am just using these two as an example) Or you can take the alternative approach and take the battle seriously. One has to diligently pray away every one of these thoughts that are not honoring and glorifying to God.

As I am striving to go deeper into my own faith, I have had to, in the past, ask important questions of myself. For instance, how did I get so far away from the main important thing in my life – God? Life seemed to be going a long great but then—Wham!  -- that’s when I seem to get attacked. It’s when we are comfortable, unaware. Before long, we become complacent. In recent months, I have been exploring this more in detail and challenging my own self in the area of my thought life. What I have come discover is that it’s much more difficult than it sounds; as I have become more keenly aware of my own short comings. I find myself having to ask for forgiveness for the same reoccurring thoughts as if it’s some sort of a broken record. You would think that once you recognize the problem you are able to make them all go away. Haha!! Well, there is my systematic approach. I have always thought that knowing what the problem is half the battle, yes, that is true. However, what good would it be to just know the problem without a tangible way to solve it? We would be constantly in self defeat for our own short comings. I think this illustrates so clearly our own desperate need for a savior! This is where we partner with God. Jesus gives us the power and ability to do what we can’t do on our own and that is to achieve victory! If Christians would truly harness this fully we would be able to make an impact in this world – by being that difference in the world!! Hypocrisy would be out the window! It all stems from the thoughts we have, the thoughts we listen to --- choose which one you will follow!! Understand that the battle is real.

Ephesians 6:13-19  “Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the day of evil, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness and as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with perseverance, making supplication got all the saints and also for me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel…”

Praise God - He is More Than Deserving!

As I have been doing my reading in My Utmost for His Highest I came across an exert that made me stop and think about a few things—How do most of us interact with God? Are we interested in God or just his blessings?

“God is never in a hurry; if we wait, we shall see that God is pointing out that we have not been interested in Himself but only in His blessings. The sense of God’s blessing is elemental. “Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world” Spiritual grit is what we need.” Oswald Chambers

Last question, was the one that made me stop in my tracks and re-evaluate my thoughts and perceptions. I even thought about my last prayer time and the things I asked God. It was in this evaluation, I realized that I never once thanked God for all that He is, what He means to me, how he has changed and molded me, for His character full of grace and mercy…etc!!  I just thanked Him for all the things He had already done. I failed to truly give Him the praise He is so deserving of – and it was clear I had become complacent. I then began my list of petitions for myself and other family members. Granted, it was not all selfish and about me but the truth be told I can use some improving in this aspect. If a person is truly interested in a genuine relationship they want to know every detail about the person. In this case, it’s not just about praying because there is a blessing to be found or an answer to be given – it goes so much deeper than that. It’s about being interested in God’s character and learning who he is. One sided relationships never work out quite right. There is always one person who ends up being the giver while the other is the taker. More often than not, God is the one who gets the short end of that stick! So the remedy to this is to give God the recognition and appreciation that he is so deserving of, first and foremost!

The other point that also struck me – God is never in a hurry – this is true! Have you ever prayed for something and it doesn’t ever seem to come to fruition? I know I have!! I am always reminded not my time but God’s. His timing is always perfect and on time. However, I am not the most patient person in the world and I know I am not alone in this fact! Actually, God has been more or less trying to get my attention in the midst of the business to literally stop all that I am doing and listen. In having done this for the last few days, I realize that I am finding my center and regaining the purpose I was losing in the midst of the chaos. God is never in a hurry—hmmm that is something to contemplate. Why am I? What am I hurrying along about and why? Actually, by thinking about tomorrow we are never living in the here and now. It’s like we are being robbed blindly and we don’t even see it. We are missing out on the current joys and discoveries. Perhaps that’s why God is never in a rush because He knows all that there is to behold in a moment that we seem to take for granted.

The next point, why do we worry and fret when Jesus has already won the battle? Oh in the midst of a trial this is the one thing that never seems to pop into my head! How many times do I need to be reminded? It’s hard to find peace and joy in the midst of a nasty situation – in my own life I have been struggling through this very reality. It’s only when we take our struggle out of God’s hands and try to deal with it on our own that we truly make a huge mess!

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up and thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you.” John 15:5-7

It’s pretty clear that when we are connected to Christ we can do all things; apart from him we wither and become useless.  This ties into the point about really knowing God – if we truly know Him; we are connected and so close to His will for our lives. (The purpose for which we were created for) We literally hang on His every word and long to hear more. Then you can ask God for things and he will grant them because you know His heart, you are continuing to learn His purpose, you begin to understand His character and perhaps even understand His timing. (it still may take me more time to get the timing thing down lol!!) It’s not just a one sided deal there should be depth to any growing relationship and as you dig deeper you want to know more. There is more joy in every moment to behold because you aren’t tied up with the worries of the world because He has already overcome it!!

In closing, give God the praise and honor He deserves instead of always asking for something all the time – this is the way to get to know Him. Take time to enjoy the simple things and moments of life that we have been given because each day is a gift. Don't worry about everything so much “Cast ALL your anxiety on him because HE cares for you.” 1Peter 5:7

Tribute to Kimberly Gilham - forever in our hearts!

There aren’t many words which can be used to describe how I am feeling at this particular moment. One of my dear friends, Kimberly Nicole Gilham was tragically killed in a car accident on April 6th, 2011. The whole accident happened because she was trying to merge into a lane and the person to the left behind her sped up while she was making her way into that lane. This person ended up hitting into her bumper on the driver side sending her car spinning to eventually be hit directly on the driver’s side by oncoming truck. The reason for telling what happened is to simple say to everyone WAKE UP!!! We may make plans for tomorrow however, we are not guaranteed it. Who or what are you living for? Is it making a lasting impact? Do you know where you will end up when you die? Kimmy knew where she was going- there wasn’t a doubt about that! It was said that as the first paramedic approached her car there was a sense of peace and serenity in that car. Jesus was with her in that last moment and He snatched her up to be with himself.

“Since no man knows the future, who can tell him what is to come? No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has the power over the day of his death.” Ecclesiastes 8:7-8

I have heard it said that our life is but a dash between the day we are born and the day we will pass away. After losing my dear friend, it has been so deeply engraved on my heart to really think about the things that I view as being important. I am now evaluating everything through the lens of eternity instead of the here and now. It really has made a couple of things very clear – Jesus is the way-the truth-the light, He is the only way to understanding life and living it to its fullest, we are not guaranteed tomorrow, time is a precious gift- use it wisely and the only thing that will outlast you is the people’s lives you touch and make a difference in. During the celebration service, the church was packed with people she impacted and touched. We all gathered to pay respects to young woman who loved Jesus more than anything else and who was an inspiration to all that were around her! Her life does nothing but point to Jesus – the dramas she had a hand in creating and the songs that were sung were so amazingly uplifting and filled with hope! She was truly a gift to all who knew her! I find myself reminiscing about the times I spent with her, the phone conversations, the text messages and they all bring a smile to my face. She definitely showed kindness, compassion and care for those whom she came in contact with. As she was carried to her final resting place, there was a sword ceremony as she was a minister of the gospel. That was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen; you could feel the presence of God in that moment as if the army of God was ushering her home. I can honestly say that my life has truly been enriched from having had the opportunity to get to know Kim!
I went back to April 6th and re-read my devotional book by Billy Graham and the message was very clear:

“As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes." Ps. 103:15

Billy Graham states: "we are here for a short time we flourish then wither and die... Yet the minutes of our lives can be flecked with gold of eternity… Instead of wasting them God exhorts us to redeem the time.

What about you? If today were your last day, what would you do? Would your priorities change? I know for many that I come in contact with they are focused on the American dream – a good job, house, car etc. The pursuit of these things will only serve you the days you are here on earth because you cannot take any of it with you. Here is the litmus test, if who or what you are striving for daily will not last into eternity -- is it really worthy of taking up your precious time here on earth? What legacy are you leaving behind? Kimmy’s legacy will live on for years and years to come! The people’s lives she impacted for Christ’s sake is a testament to this fact! All of heaven is rejoicing at her home coming, although there is a huge void here on earth as her presence here is missed by so many!!!! (A huge understatement)
I truly feel that she would want all of us to be living our lives to the fullest for Christ!! Let's all take this as a challenge to not only remember Kimmy but also to live full heartedly for Jesus everyday!! Never take for granted a moment, live each day with purpose and intent, never take family or friendships for granted as they are such precious gifts from God!!!

Here is the promise from God:

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things have passed away.”” Revelation 21:3-4

Kimmy’s Favorite Song:  Revelation Song
Worthy is the,
Lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to Him who sits on
Heaven's Mercy Seat

(Chorus)
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And I will adore You…!
Yeah!

Clothed in rainbows, of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and
Glory and power be
To You the Only Wise King,
Yeah

(Chorus)
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/g/gateway_worship/revelation_song.html ]
Filled with wonder,
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your Name
Jesus, Your Name is Power
Breath, and Living Water
Such a marvelous mystery
Yeah…

Come up lift up His Name
To the King of Kings…
We will adore YOU Lord…
King of heaven and earth
King Jesus, King Jesus
Aleluya, aleluya, aleluya!
Majesty, awestruck Honor
And Power and Strength and Dominion
To You Lord,
To the King, to King
To the King of Glory
